It is with undisguised pleasure that we look forward to meeting you again at Art Paris. This fair has the merit of strongly defending the French scene, which is what gives it its color and its unique identity. This year, faithful to our line, we offer you a choice of works by Auguste Herbin (1882-1960) ranging from the period of scrolls to that of the plastic alphabet. A retrospective opens at the Montmartre Museum in Paris and will be on view until September 15. You will have the opportunity to discover the work of an artist who accompanied all the major movements in art history from the end of the 19th century to the mid-20th century. Watching his work unfold before our eyes, we are witnessing a real art history lesson, the common thread of which is color.

And even though the masterful work that we are presenting on the stand, “Virgin” from 1953 with its large dimensions 146 x 114 cm, contrasts with its colorful alphabet. The composition of this work is mostly black on a white background, with just a few red dots, a semi-circle and a blue triangle punctuating the composition. The verticality of its composition places the work in perfect balance. At the end of his career, by setting up this ingenious plastic alphabet, he opened the field to a whole following generation of artists whose names are : Jean Dewasne (1921-1999), Victor Vasarely (1906-1997), but also Olle Baertling (1911-1981) or Aurelie Nemours (1910-2005).

We will also return to the weaving work of Karina Bisch (1974), whom we invited to dialogue with the work of Alberto Magnelli, during the last exhibition of the year 2023. Karina’s work was chosen by Nicolas Trembley in the focus offered by the “Art & Crafts” fair, her work highlights Craft, of which here is Nicolas Trembley’s description : Karina Bisch’s Pointillist Painting is not a painting but a wool embroidery made by the artist herself. In this series of small formats developed over several years, we find his interest in the vernacular question of domestic uses linked to women. The motifs she mixes often refer to key artists of abstraction such as Anni Albers, Sophie Taeuber-Arp or Sonia Delaunay.

Of course, with regard to this work, we will offer some works by Alberto Magnelli, including the very beautiful black and white composition on a blue background “Tranquil Attitude” 1945, a favorite work from the Lahumière collection, which is reminiscent of the Magnelli’s attraction to African art. The latter had an important collection which his widow donated to the Center Pompidou in 1985.

We will also have the joy of returning to the work of Hans-Jörg Glattfelder, who won the Aurelie Nemours prize in 2023 to which we dedicated an exhibition last September. A beautiful and grand non-Euclidean vision of the plan will welcome us with open arms, a theme on which, not without malice, Glattfelder constantly imposed his choice.

Antoine Perrot, in his register of “Ready-made color”, how to paint today, with what, will share with us his latest creations, offering bolduc weavings on cardboard, which ties in with the work of Craft in a certain way. Always on the lookout for a new color taken out of its context, whether it is a construction or decoration material, it tells a collective story, that of our production and our consumption.

A presentation of the latest works by Moon-Pil Shim, who illuminated the facade of the Grand Palais during the Art Paris edition focused on Korea. This artist who works between France and Korea, pushes his research into depth and transparency by superimposing plexiglass and layers of color, line work in the material completes his works.
