Dear Friends,

We would like to invite you to the ART PARIS fair, where we will be featuring a show devoted to AURELIE NEMOURS AND HER FRIENDS.

Aurélie Nemours passed away nine years ago, shortly after her solo show at the Pompidou Center in Paris. She made many bequests of work, notably to museums in France and abroad, while what remained at galleries went to the Fondation de France. Few of her works are therefore still in circulation, but her international, largely European, reputation remains high.

We felt it was important to show a few pieces flanked by the work of artists who knew her well, on whom she bestowed friendship and advice. She would always listen quietly, always counsel patience. Silence and patience not only served creativity, for patience was also needed while awaiting the public’s discovery of this approach to art. Her works bear titles that reflect her ideas and beliefs : The Structure of Silence, The Crosses, The Rhythm of a Millimeter, The Rhythm of the Immeasurable, and so on.

She was adored by artists of her own and younger generations, such as Jean Leppien, Gottfried Honneger and Jean Legros (with whom she had a voluminous correspondence) and also Jean-François Dubreuil, Yves Popet, Charles Bézie, Henri Prosi, and Claude Pasquer, not forgetting her adorable niece Ode Bertrand, who looked after Nemours right to the end.

At the gallery during this same period, from March 18th to May 11th, we’ll be showing Jean Legros, notably works from his Cranes of Beaubourg phase alongside his Musical Round Dances, where color pays tribute to various composers. Legros’ abstract oeuvre is substantial, colorful, and poetic—we are delighted to be showing these highly modern works once again.

The Auguste Herbin retrospective at Le Cateau-Cambrésis has now moved to Céret, where Herbin did very fine cubist paintings on several occasions, notably the years around 1913. We have contributed a number of works to the show, which runs until May 26th.
We might also mention the Alberto Magnelli exhibition at the Musée d’Ixelles in Brussels, also on show until the May 26th.

We look forward to seeing you at the ART PARIS fair.

Warm regards,

ANNE LAHUMIERE and the entire team at the gallery
