Léon Wuidar

We are happy to contribute to the Léon Wuidar exhibition at the Château Bonisson art center, by lending some works by Auguste Herbin

It was at the end of the 1960s that Léon Wuidar began to produce singular paintings, both heirs to geometric abstraction and having not completely renounced the figuration of things of the world. An abstract and figurative painting with variable geometry. (...)
Nourished by these reflections on the cosmos, science and the physical and spiritual nature of color, Herbin developed his plastic alphabet in 1942. From this new pictorial language, consisting of a system of correspondences between letters of the alphabet, geometric shapes, colors and musical sounds, were born one hundred and sixty-one paintings produced between 1942 and 1960, including Parfum n°2 (1954 ), A I (1955) Dora n°2 (1957), presented in this exhibition. Their combinations of shapes and colors that speak and sing, testify to this significant abstraction that the canons of essentialist formalism have deemed impure. As if to better demonstrate his refusal to break with meaning, Wuidar’s painting even offers itself the happiness from the 1980s of a typographical turn.
