Auguste Herbin
À propos de l'artiste
In 1943 Auguste Herbin invented his Visual Alphabet. He arbitrarily assigned each letter a geometric form, color, and tone. He incorporated this alphabet into his working method : he would select a word, identify each letter, link that letter to the form and color laid down in his alphabet, and then arrange the shapes and colors in such a way as to balance the surface of the painting.
