Dear friends of the gallery ,

We are very happy to welcome you again on the Art Paris Art Fair.
In response to a show being organized by the Musée Matisse in Le Cateau-Cambrésis on the work of Jean Dewasne, titled Couleur Construite : From Anti-sculpture to Architecture (March 22 – June 9, 2014), our stand at the Art Paris fair this year will adopt the theme of “On and Around Dewasne.”

“Dewasne’s oeuvre contains numerous masterpieces already recognized as key works of the latter half of the twentieth century : The Apotheosis of Marat (1951), The Tomb of Anton Webern (1952), The Long March (1968), Red Abode (1972), and Jet-Underground (Hanover Subway, 1975). His art reached a zenith in 1985 with Four Murals for the Grande Arche de la Défense outside Paris, whose visionary monumentality was an early pointer to future millennial practices. Dewasne’s career, now that our memories can encompass it all, seems to have pivoted around a crucial, persistent question—“How can abstract art go forward ?”

exhibition curator, Musée Matisse

The serial so called ‘Antisculptures’ by the artist is a reference to his researches on colour fields above curbed surfaces. To start Jean Dewasne employed coachworks from cars and trucks and then, as this work, fairings of motorcycles. These motorcycles fairings are part of a small production in Jean Dewasne’s work, we found out about 10 pieces.
