Coignet’s forms seem sometimes given for themselves, in their stupefying and lonesome presence… Unless we have to understand his work in its totality as a motivated deny of the multiple forms that the sculpture took since 30 years : deny of the banal object as sculpture, ‘Duchamp mode’, metaphor that becomes the indigestible commonplace that we know, deny of the organic sculpture of povera arte, deny of sculpture taking place through the body, body giving itself in a theatrical way recovering the classical statuary.
