Past exhibitionFrom 29 March to 1 April 2012

Dear Friends,
Today we are delighted to extend an invitation to two concurrent shows in Paris: Art Paris at the Grand Palais from March 29 to April 1, 2012, and Drawing Now at the Louvre during the same dates. I hope you’ll have the stamina to attend both, because they should be mutually stimulating.

Whereas Art Paris will show definitive works, Drawing Now will feature sketches, early studies and—as is notably the case for Antoine Perrot—autonomous works on paper (drawn, collaged, torn, etc.) which are not necessarily studies for a painting. Diane has visited all the artists’ studios and made a shrewd selection with respect to classic works, including completely unknown pieces worthy of discovery.
Drawing Now will feature the œuvre of Antoine Perrot flanked by works by Charles Bézie, Jean Dewasne, Auguste Herbin, Gottfried Honegger and André Stempfel.

Goethe’s incitation to “Make a better future by developing elements of the past” seems to us more relevant than ever. The modern strategy of art construit cultivates a sense of “process” that all the artists in this movement find motivating. More than ever, the lasting impact of art construit on the French scene is clear: on display will be little-known works by our contemporary artists compared to a selection of works by our classic artists.
Art Paris will include works by Charles Bézie, Jean-Gabriel Coignet, Jean Dewasne, Jean-François Dubreuil, Hans-Jörg Glattfelder, Auguste Herbin, Gottfried Honegger, Jean Legros, Vera Molnar, Antoine Perrot , Henri Prosi and Victor Vasarely.

Our Victor Vasarely show, which closed in December after a three-month run, drew numerous visitors, all of whom acknowledged the museum quality of the exhibition. For many people it was the first time they had seen his works of the ‘50s, which are poorly known in a city that has not yet hosted a Vasarely retrospective. Had the press fulfilled its role, the impact of the show would certainly have been even greater.

Currently the gallery is showing Jean-Gabriel Coignet, well worth a visit. Elsewhere, a work by Henri Prosi has been acquired by the Espace de l’Art Concret in Mouans-Sartoux, and a major show of works by our friend Jean-Michel Gasquet will open in the Musée de Macon on March 17th.

We look forward to seeing you at any or all of these events.

Warm regards,

Anne Lahumière and the crew of the gallery
